Protected Farms in Somerset County

Somerset County is known as the gateway to Western Maine’s mountains, lakes and streams. Farming has a long history in Somerset County as settlers used the Old Canada Road in the 19th century to find seasonal work, and many of them settled in Kennebec Valley. Somerset County is one of the few counties to have seen a growth in the number of farms with numbers jumping from 504 in 2002 to 564 in 2012.
